…Panther girls took third in Carbondale event 

Middle Park High School’s boys Nordic ski team took second place in the first meet of the Colorado high school winter season, anchored by strong finishes by Sebastian Brower, Alex Holinka and Kimo Sullivan. The Aspen High School ski team took first, in the event, which took place Saturday.

The girls Nordic team took 3rd place, thanks to strong skiing by Sylvia Brower, Elizabeth Hammond and Maggie Barker.

Despite cold temperatures and a tough five-kilometer course, the Panthers were able to continue to standout in Colorado high school Nordic skiing. The race was in the classic technique at Spring Gulch near Carbondale.

For the boys, Sebastian Brower took third place behind Sumner Cotton of Steamboat Springs High School and Taiga Moore from Aspen. Brower’s time of 18 minutes and nine seconds was 20 seconds behind the winner.

Alex Holinka finished in 8th place, skiing the course in 19:05 and Kimo Sullivan was in 12th place with a time of 19:35. Other finishers for the Panthers were:

Grayson Barker, 20th, 20:21; Graydon Walker, 22nd, 20:25; Ethan Callarman, 23rd, 20:25; Vinny Troccoli, 24th, 20:29; Will Kuhns, 51st, 23:26; Andy Troccoli, 69th, 24:23; Chance Hein, 70th, 24:28; Kyle Vogelbacher, 78th, 24:53; Calvin Ciccarelli, 81st, 25; Ewan Gallagher, 89th, 25:36; and Jack Nesvara, 145th, 38:15.

A total of 148 skiers vied in the race.

Panther girls take 3rd

Sylvia Brower led the Panther girls to a 3rd place finish behind Aspen High School and Battle Mountain High School. Brower took 6th place overall, skiing the course in 21:52, followed by Elizabeth Hammond in 17th place with a time of 24:02 and Maggie Barker in 27th place with a time of 25:31.

Other finishers for the Panther girls were: Gabrielle Pellini, 29th, 25:35; Ellen Osborne, 44th, 27:51; Selena Stoncius, 47th, 28:62; Emily DePlata, 58th, 30:09; and Sierra Jamison, 62nd, 30:43.

A total of 121 girls skied in the event.
