The East Grand Middle School girls Nordic ski team took first place in the 3-km classic race at Spring Gulch on Saturday, edging out five other teams from the mountains of Colorado.

The EGMS win was anchored by the fast skiing of 8th grader Sylvia Brower, who took third in the race, missing out on second place by less than a second. Annie Kuhns wasn’t far behind in 6th place.

Skiers for the Cubs included, for the girls: Gabrielle Pellini, 13th place; Anna Lantermans, 21st; Allison Life, 31st; Haley Miller, 35th; Lena Moss, 42nd; Thayden Harms, 44th; Sabra Forquer, 45th, Trinity Williams, 49th and Kaylee Hoover, 52nd.

The boys EGMS Nordic team put in a strong performance as well, taking fifth place out of six teams with Gray Barker taking the top spot for the East Grand boys in 8th place.

Other finishers for the boys were: Nick Forquer, 13th; Any Troccoli, 23rd; Dane Jensen, 24th; Corbin Solomon, 25th; Kyle Vogelbacher, 31st; Calvin Ciccarelli, 32nd; Oliver Schneller, 37th; Jonathan Callarman, 46th; Caden Hansen, 49th; Carter Chamberlin, 53rd; Kadin Starr, 54th; Logan Walker, 59th; and Jordan Anderson, 60th.

The Cubs travel to Minturn this weekend for another middle school race.
