The Bureau of Land Management seeks the public’s help as it begins developing a management plan for the popular North Sand Hills in Jackson County.

The Recreation Area Management Plan update will guide the specific management of the North Sand Hills Special Recreation Management Area, which is an area popular with off-highway vehicle enthusiasts.  The BLM is closely coordinating with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Colorado State Land Board, who manage lands interspersed with BLM lands in the North Sand Hills.

The field office will consider actions such as identifying designated camping areas, establishing a camping fee, establishing a day-use fee, and protecting sensitive resources.

“We need to hear from the public to help us continue to provide this unique recreational opportunity in the North Sand Hills as well as to maintain this unique natural area in northern Colorado,” said BLM Kremmling Field Manager Bill Mills.

The BLM is hosting four public open house meetings to answer questions and accept written comments:

  • March 28 from 5:30-8 p.m. in Walden at the Wattenburg Center, 686 County Road 42
  • April 1 in Denver from 4-8 p.m. at the REI Flagship Store, 1416 Platte St.
  • April 2 in Fort Collins from 5:30-8 p.m. at the U.S. Forest Service Office, 2150 Centre Ave, Building E
  • April 3 in Cheyenne, Wyo. from 5:30-8 p.m. at Laramie County Community College, 1400 E. College Dr.

More information about the management plan update and how to comment is available at https://go.usa.gov/xEHZg.

Comments need to be received by April 29, 2019 and may be emailed to BLM_CO_KR_WEBMAIL@BLM.GOV or mailed to Bureau of Land Management, Attn: John Monkouski, P.O. Box 68, Kremmling, CO 80459.

Any fee proposals would undergo additional public review and would need to be approved by the Northwest Resource Advisory Council before BLM could begin implementing them.
