The town is making last minute preparations for the 32nd Annual 3 Lakes Ice Fishing Contest. Fishermen and Fisherwomen from all over Colorado and its neighboring states flock to Lake Granby, Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Reservoir for their chance to win prizes and cash valued at over $28,000, $12,000 in tagged fish and $10,000 in merchandise. This year the first prize for the Saturday raffle is a brand new 2019 Ski-Doo 550LT Tundra Snowmobile!
The 32nd Annual 3 Lakes Ice Fishing Contest will take place January 24 – 26, 2020. Three one-day contests take place each day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The tournament attracts all kinds of anglers, from beginners to the seasoned angler. Over 100 children fish the contest and women often place “in the money” during the three award ceremonies. Entries start at just $45 for one day and include a prize package drawing ticket; the first anglers to register receive a commemorative hat. Tagged fish contest winners will receive $1000 cash!!
Bernie Keefe, one of the tournament officials and local fishing guide, has been out almost everyday and said the fish are “still very active throughout the day it should be another great event.” Keefe shared his weekly fishing report which stated, “Grand Lake and Lake Granby are fishing very well. Rainbows and a few browns are in shallow water eating bright colored jigs and spoons. Early mornings have been best. Lake trout are active in 30-80ft with small plastics tipped with sucker meat have been doing very well. Slab spoons have also been producing lots of fish.” Keefe wanted to remind anglers that the conditions vary and “Always be careful and check the ice as you go out.”
The Kickoff Party is January 23rd at River Run RV Resort from 6:30-9:30 which includes a frozen fish toss with a chance to win $100 and lots of door prizes. A $25 ticket includes 2 drink tickets and food!
