Dear Senator Gardner:
You and your Republican colleagues projected that Trump would show regret, remorse, repentance and contriteness following your votes to acquit him of crimes. But many of us were skeptical. “Withholding information is the essence of tyranny. Control of the flow of information is the tool of the dictatorship.” (American author)
And Trump responded with vengefulness, relentless cruelty, heartless actions and self-indulgent rhetoric. Only fools, ignoramuses and disingenuous people would do what you did. You wholeheartedly took the Kool-Aid from your cult leader and Dictator-in-Chief. Let’s hope the result is that your time and theirs in Congress is “on its last breath”. Similar to you, self-serving and cowardly acts facilitated autocratic leaders in the past as they politicized the rule of law and suppressed freedom. Acts, like yours, brought the likes of Putin, Kim Jong-un, Saddam Hussein, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, et alia to power and kept them there. Trump will join their ranks.
The remedies to this national nightmare are fact-based information and engaged citizens. “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) My hope is that Thomas Jefferson’s words will come true: “Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of the body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day.” It can’t come too soon.

The Winter Park Council is proposing to spend $536,000 to install interpretive signage and play features. No detail on what “play features” means but the idea seems to be to tear out all the existing signage and replace it – which will “make a better experience”! What is wrong with the experience that nature provides? Who stops to read those “interpretive” signs anyway. Over a half million bucks? But the funds will come mostly from GOCO they say. Why should we care where “most” of the money comes from? Will the town portion put pressure on another sales tax increase? Isn’t the current 11.5% sales tax enough? Can’t the town find a better use of that money regardless of where it comes from? Are we trying to make Winter Park, Fraser and Grand County more like Denver? Let’s keep the country/small town feel as long as possible.
