Your tax dollars are at work.  For the betterment of America’s citizens?  Well, I’ll let you be the judge:

-ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) recently tweeted about its new detention facility, dedicated to transgender women (who are biological men).  ICE promoted the facility that includes, “TVs, an outdoor recreational area, and a library as well as a medical staff trained in best practices for the care of transgender individuals.”  There are training classes too, one of them a self-grooming class where illegal immigrants will “learn about hair, makeup, and how to present yourself to the public so that your femininity is more apparent than just someone looking at you and questioning what your gender is.”  Wow, I feel so much better knowing that transgender illegal immigrants will be prepared for social occasions, don’t you? We don’t want any beauty school drop-outs, do we? This is wrong on so many levels, but the most offensive part is that tax dollars are spent on foreigners so they can look pretty.  For what, the Immigration Court date that they will skip out on? They’ll just disappear just like most of the illegal immigrants released into this country. How about spending the money on job training for homeless people? I could name a thousands better uses of our tax dollars. This is a clear example where your government cares more about the citizens of foreign countries than they care about us.

-Republicans should be thanking whoever funded the election campaign of the new congressional representative, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.   The new voice of the Democratic party has to be the most misinformed person in congress, and that is saying a lot. She recently described ICE detention centers:  “That is exactly what they are. They are concentration camps, and the fact that concentrations camps are now an institutionalized practice in the Home of the Free is extraordinarily disturbing and we need to do something about it.”  She is right, we should do something about it, perhaps deporting those who knowingly, willfully and recklessly snub their nose at our immigration laws? She completely waters down the Holocaust of Nazi Germany. Does she also forget that ICE detainees can self deport at anytime and these detention centers are better living conditions than what is experienced by our own homeless citizens?  The President of Poland said it best, inviting her to Poland, “where Adolf Hitler set up the worst chain of concentration camps the world has ever seen, so that she may see that scoring political points with enflamed rhetoric is unacceptable in our contemporary Western societies.” I can’t see how her outlandish comments persuade people to her way of thinking.

-AOC has also said that minorities have a hard time gardening because of “colonialist vegetables”.  She called out cauliflower as a source of the problem. She is very concerned that people aren’t growing yucca instead of cauliflower and explains, “what you’re doing is you’re taking a colonial approach to environmentalism”.  I am not a gardening expert, but I don’t it’s a stretch to say that people don’t worry about colonial influence when deciding what to grow in their garden, minority gardeners included. Perhaps she doesn’t know that yucca doesn’t grow well in most of the U.S.  She just doesn’t make sense. She must think congress is doing a great job, because she also complained that giving a 4.5% raise to congress, up to $178,500, wasn’t enough, saying “It’s not even like a raise” Considering the low approval rating of congress, most Americans don’t believe AOC or anyone in congress are doing a very good job.  But that is your tax dollars at work.

-Granby’s town tagline is “Adventure Awaits” and the road sign has icons of hiking, fishing, skiing and etc.  This must have been lost on whoever approved the designs of the new murals in downtown Granby. I was hoping they’d reflect a mountain town vibe.  But not at all, as the paintings make it seem that you are in downtown Portland. What a huge disappointment bordering on being an eyesore. They simply don’t fit into the image of Granby unless the new tagline, as it is in Portland, will be “Keep Granby Weird”.
