RICHARD WILSON STONE   1954-2020

Rick “Rock” Stone, son of George L. and Dorothy Stone, was found Sunday, February 9, 2020, at his home in Winter Park, Colorado. He died peacefully as he played his guitar. Rick was born in Des Moines, Iowa, graduated from Dowling High School and attended Ellsworth Community College. After college, he resided with his sister, Diane, in Berkley, California. Rick worked for Greyhound Bus Company and finally landed in a place he called home, Colorado. This was a perfect match because he loved skiing and the snowy mountains captivated him.

Rick was the “Instructor’s instructor” with the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), serving passionately for many years, guiding disabled athletes down Winter Park’s beautiful ski runs and allowing them the joy that he found in skiing. Rock also taught skiing at Winter Park and worked with elite athletes.

His abilities extended far and wide as he volunteered at music festivals and drove for Home James Transportation. Rock was the very heart and soul of Eagle Wind Sound Recording Studio and was loved by many friends in Fraser Valley.

Rick is survived by his sisters: Cassandra (James) Flomo, Iowa; Theresa “Terri” Stone, Maryland; brother, Les (Claudette) Stone, California; nephew, Andre’ Stone; nieces: Jamila Flomo and Kimberly Jones, and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Diane Carol Stone.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb 22, 4:00 PM at Church of the Eternal Hills, 100 Meadows Drive (CR 515), Tabernash. After Party begins at 6:30 at the old Smokin’ Mo’s in Cooper Creek Square.

Heartfelt thanks to the Church of the Eternal Hills, Eagle Wind Sound Recording Studios and the Fraser Community.
