Be smart and help the snow removal crews

We receive an average of 350 inches of snow each season and crews are up plowing and removing snow long before anyone gets up. Overnight parking is not allowed on any streets until May 1. Having the shoulders clear help the snow removal crews. Vehicles left overnight may be ticketed or towed.

One Year Later at The Drop

The Drop, Fraser’s pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) trash and recycling facility, finished its first full year of operations. The Drop has seen a 38% increase in recycling utilization since last year and a 17% increase in PAYT trash bag sales. As of November 25, The Drop has received over 23,000 lbs. of recycling in 2019 alone! The Drop is also home to the Town’s first solar system which will help power the facility and increase the level of service to the community. Due to a few site improvements (a propane heater, the 2.5kw solar system and road base within the yard), 2019 revenues from PAYT trash bag sales and donations covered about 70% of all costs (labor, capital improvements, dumpster service) incurred for The Drop.

There’s a New Shuttle in Town

New paratransit and Night Lift shuttle will arrive in February. The Lift recently accepted a brand-new shuttle specially-designed to accommodate four wheelchair positions (twice as many as a regular vehicle of this style) and a total passenger capacity of 20 riders. It will be used mainly for The Lift’s ADA paratransit service as well as for the Night Lift call-and-ride service in the evenings. The Town obtained a grant to cover 80% of the cost of this $88,000 vehicle from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The shuttle was delivered from the factory floor to our wrap shop in Boulder where it is getting its colorful exterior applied. The new shuttle is expected to make its inaugural trip sometime in early February!

A New Face in Winter Park Town Hall

Hugh Bell is a new Planner for the Town of Winter Park.  Bell graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design and an emphasis in Planning. Bell said, “One reason I chose to work in Winter Park is the small size. Because the department is small, I have a greater scope of tasks and am able to learn more than I would in a larger planning office.”  Bell added, “It’s exciting to work in a town in the midst of change as my days are always full.” He is a lifelong skier and when the snow is gone, Bell enjoys running and playing his cello. “I’m excited to get to know this town – both its trails and its people.”
