Fraser Residents: Bring out your trash this Saturday!

The Town of Fraser will host a Fraser Cleanup Day on August 24th from 11 am – 4 pm. This is a great way for residents to dispose of unwanted items that would otherwise prove to be quite costly.

Drop off is limited to one truck load or medium trailer load limit per household. Jim Miller, with Blue Life Limited, will be onsite to accept electronics at no cost to residents.

No appliances, construction materials or waste, semi or tractor tires, hazardous waste or toxic waste, liquid waste, household chemicals, car batteries, petroleum products or contaminated soil are allowed.

Roll-offs for disposal of unwanted items will be provided at The Drop, Fraser’s pay as you throw trash and recycling facility located at 440 County Road 72. Reasonable proof of residency required.

Once the roll-offs are full, a limited number of tickets will be provided for residents to dispose of their items at the Granby Transfer Station through Friday, August 30th.

Free entrance admission to all National Parks on August 25

Look Who’s Turning 103! The National Park Service (NPS) was created on August 25, 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Act. Each year, the NPS works with partners to celebrate this anniversary.

National parks are America’s best idea, and there are more than 400 parks available to everyone, every day. The fee-free days provide a great opportunity to visit a new place or an old favorite, especially one of the national parks that normally charge an entrance fee. The entrance fee waiver for fee-free days does not cover amenity or user fees for activities such as camping, boat launches, transportation, or special tours.

Celebrate the National Park Service’s 103rd birthday this Sunday, August 25th, by visiting a National Park! To find a park or events happening at parks across the country, visit nps.gov.

Centennial commemoration of 19th amendment event

Step up to the Colorado State Capitol on Monday, Aug. 26, at 10 am, as the Governor and other key members of the Colorado Women’s Vote Centennial Commission will launch an 18-month, centennial commemoration of the passage of the 19th Amendment, the right for women to vote. They will discuss plans for community engagement, dialogue and collaboration around this anniversary, so every one of Colorado’s 64 counties can get involved.

As the first state to give women the right to vote by popular referendum, Colorado is an important part of this U.S. commemoration.

No camping at next weekend’s Phish shows

On Tuesday, Tri-County Health Department announced that, due to the presence of plague in prairie dogs located in close proximity to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, overnight camping and vending on park grounds will be prohibited at this year’s shows. While there have been no confirmed cases of plague on site at DSGP, as an extra measure of caution, the Health Department has restricted parking at the venue to asphalt lots — concert-goers will not be allowed to park on unpaved lots or grass. Automatic refunds of camping fees will be issued to concert-goers over the next few days.

While the shows are still scheduled to go on over Labor Day weekend, the lack of camping and vending on-site will make for a different vibe at this year’s event.

NEPA draft regulations proposal comment period extended

The US Forest Service (USFS) needs input on their proposed changes to how they comply with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations. After hearing people needed more time to review and provide input, they extended the comment period to August 26. “We want more public involvement in our work. Our relationships with local community members are the real foundation on which our successes are built,” said 19th USFS Chief, Vicki Christiansen. “We have been accepting comments on the proposed rule since June 12. So far, we have more than 55,000 comments. Considering the importance of the proposed rules to our agency and the American people, we have extended the comment period by 14 days.”

Once the comment period has ended, the USFS will review and carefully consider what those comments entail. Based on that, they will make any necessary adjustments to craft the best rule that they can. This is your opportunity to add your voice to the story, by engaging in the comment period in the Federal Register. “Together, we can take care of nature as nature takes care of us.” To review the plans and submit input, visit fs.fed.us.
