3rd Annual Art For A Cause

Each year, approximately 40 students, grades K-5, meet in the Fraser Valley Elementary art room on Thursdays to create their mini-masterpieces. These works of art will be sold at the Holiday Artisan Fair this Saturday at the Grand Park Rec Center from 10 am – 4 pm. All proceeds benefit Mountain Family Center and Grand County Pet Pals.

To date, the students have raised over $1,500 to support Mountain Family Center and Grand County Pet Pals. “It’s such a fun fundraiser! The kids really enjoy creating art!”, said parent, Melissa Giberson.

Arrests Made in Fraud Case
The Granby Police Department (GPD) was notified approximately 6 pm on November 13th, that a Granby resident had misplaced their debit card at City Market and immediately noticed they had fraudulent charges on their bank account.

It is believed that two male parties from the Denver area found the debit card and immediately went on a crime spree. They purchased, or attempted to purchase, gift cards, tobacco, and other products from at a least two Granby businesses.

During the course of the investigation, Granby officers were able to determine the vehicle used in the crimes, which was a rental car, and the vehicle was located around 1 am on November 14th. The parties were contacted and found to be in possession of some of the purchased items as well as illegal narcotics. One of the parties was also determined to have a felony warrant for their arrest. Both parties were taken into custody.

Anyone that believes they may have been a victim of fraud, theft, or shoplifting in the last few days is encouraged to call the Granby Police Department. At this time, the case is an active investigation. If you have any information on this incident, please contact the Granby Police Department at (970) 887-3007.

Avalanche danger persists in Northern mountains

In the past couple weeks riders have triggered numerous large and dangerous avalanches. A large number of these avalanches were in the Northern Mountains. Although this is where the majority of avalanche activity has been, large avalanches were reported from all over the state including the San Juan mountains. The avalanche danger is greatest in the Northern Mountains, especially the Front Range, as northern and eastern areas received the most recent snow. As you move south through the state, the avalanche danger tapers, but as recent avalanche activity shows, large avalanches can be triggered on wind-loaded slopes in any mountain range in Colorado.
