USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships coming to Winter Park

USA Cycling recently announced the 2019 USA Cycling National Championships schedule. With races from coast-to-coast, the country’s best riders will compete across each discipline to win the U.S. title. The 2019 National Championship schedule begins in March, and continues with at least one championship nearly every month, including races at the junior, collegiate, amateur, elite and masters levels.

“The USA Cycling National Championships bring together the top racers in the U.S. who are all racing for the honor of wearing the Stars and Stripes jersey and being crowned national champion,” said so many riders at every level to realize their dreams of competing on the national stage,” said Derek Bouchard-Hall, USA Cycling President & CEO. “The races are guaranteed to be thrilling and rewarding to watch. And, for the elite-level riders, the 2019 National Championships will be key with the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics one year away.”

This year, from July 23-28th, the Mountain Bike National Championships move out west and take over Winter Park Resort in Colorado

“The USA Cycling National Championships are an incredible opportunity for so many riders at every level to realize their dreams of competing on the national stage,” said Chuck Hodge, USA Cycling Vice President of Operations. “The races are also a chance for cities and cycling communities around the country to come together and watch America’s best riding at their best. The National Championships are not to be missed, and we are continuing to work to make each of the events bigger and better.”

Wengert has been with the town for more than ten years. “Recognizing that he plays a lot of roles, we would like to retain him on a consulting basis”, said Riesberg.

Mayor Jimmy Lahrman stated “Our community is better for your service and we are going to miss you”.

The Town has already begun their recruiting effort to find a suitable candidate to fill Wengert’s shoes. For more information, visit wpgov.com.

Scammers slamming the area

The Fraser Winter Park Police Department has had many calls lately of individuals reporting tax scams.
Scammers use the regular mail, telephone, or email to set up individuals, businesses, payroll and tax professionals.
Here are a few things to be aware of:
Scammers scheming around October 15 deadline
IRS warns of scams related to natural disasters (scammers will often try to take advantage of the generosity of taxpayers who want to help victims of major disasters)
After filing a return is the scammers favorite time to scam because many taxpayers have recently filed a return and may be waiting for a response from the IRS
New twist on phone scam; scammers will direct taxpayers to IRS.gov to “verify” calls, they will claim to be IRS employees, using fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers.  They many know a lot about their targets, and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling.
IRS DOESN’T
• Call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill if you owe any taxes.
• Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
• Demand payment without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
• Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone
• The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information.
Feel free to contact the Fraser Winter Park Police Department at (970) 722-7779 if you feel you have been scammed, if you have given money to any scammers or received any phone calls.
