The second season of the new “Amtrak Winter Park Express” ski train hit the tracks last week with a special kickoff party at Denver Union Station on Thursday, evening January 4th ahead of the first scheduled trip of the new season.
The Union Station celebration, featured live music, special train tours, discounted Winter Park lift tickets, specialty drinks at Terminal Bar and rail cars wrapped in Lyft’s hot pink design.

The Ski Train has been a tradition at Winter Park Resort 1940 through 2009. The service returned to the resort last year after several years of negotiations on many fronts as a new partnership was formed between the operating entities of Amtrak and Union Pacific. “It was a lot of work to get the deal back on track,” said Steve Hurlbert, director of public relations and communication for Winter Park Resort. “Many of the leaders in Denver came to the table and helped push the negotiations forward.” The Winter Park Express is a unique transportation opportunity and “offers something you can’t get anywhere in the US.”
The Winter Park Express had a successful honeymoon, selling nearly 19,000 tickets over the course of the season. Hurlbert added, “We have always been connected with the train. For generations families have made it part of the skiing experience.”
The second season of the Amtrak Winter Park Express departed from Denver Union Station on Friday January 5th, delivering around 300 skiers and riders directly to the slopes at Winter Park.
