On Wednesday September 30 West Grand School District was notified of a possible exposure to COVID-19 and made the decision to engage in remote learning beginning Thursday, Oct 1. After test results were returned on Oct. 1, COVID-19 has been identified at West Grand High School with two confirmed student cases. Because of the circumstances of the infections, it does not meet the criteria for a school “outbreak”. Each case of COVID-19 is interviewed by Grand County Public Health (GCPH). As part of this investigation process:

  • The people diagnosed are being kept home from school until they are no longer infectious.
  • The people’s mask use, social distancing, and activities while infectious were assessed.
  • The people who were identified as close contacts of the persons with COVID-19 have been instructed to stay home from school for the timeframe of 14-days after the date of exposure. This is called quarantine.
  • The quarantine only applies to students or staff that were identified and notified by GCPH, not household members.

Grand County Public Health will individually notify all close contacts of quarantine and testing information on October 2, 2020.

All students and staff of West Grand High School should monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 even if they are not identified as a close contact. West Grand High School will remain in remote learning through October 14, with a tentative return to in-person learning on October 15.
