ENDURANCE ATHLETE ANDREW GILLMAN ATTEMPTING 24–HOUR SKI CHALLENGE TO SUPPORT CHARITY
Gillman is fundraising for Global Orphan Prevention through 24-hours continuous uphill skiing at Winter Park Ski Resort on January 15thWinter Park Ski Resort, CO, January 15th: Renowned for his many 24–hour endurance challenges and belief in good causes, Andrew Gillman will attempt to ski for 24 hours straight at Winter Park Ski Resort to fundraise for Global Orphan Prevention, a Colorado charity. The event will start at 9:00 am at the ski resort base and is open to the public.
The event is hosted by Global Orphan Prevention, a nonprofit working to prevent the orphan trade caused by economic hardship. More than 80% of orphans in developing countries have living parents, but are abandoned because of poverty and hardship according to UNICEF. For-profit orphanages often take advantage of mothers and turn a child into an orphan.
Attendees can learn more about Global Orphan Prevention and make contributions at the event. All donors at the site will be entered into a raffle with a variety of prizes such as Mystery Ranch backpacks, FITS socks, Opticus glacier glasses, Dermatone, Masterfit insole, private climbing adventure with Brady Robinson, fitness coaching or martial arts from Andrew Gillman plus more! The giveaway is from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Gillman invites all members of the public to attend and ski with him. Arrive at 8:00 am that morning for orientation or call (720) 296-4138 for more details to join the challenge. For those who would like to stay warm, you can also cheer Gillman on at the base. He will make frequent stops at the base during his challenge to meet and talk to supporters. There is no cost to attend and since it’s a 24–hour challenge, you can come at any time of the day.
Gillman says, “My drive for these challenges is that I was a professional triathlete and needed something to continue to train for and keep my identity as an athlete, I am not sure what to do if I don’t have something to train for. I must push myself and have a love for driving hard while making a difference for those who matter. My life is about improving life for others.”
When asked why he chose to raise money for Global Orphan Prevention, he replied, “Nobody has the right to hurt a child and I’d love the opportunity to make a physical difference to stop it from happening and empower those who can be more immediate than myself if possible to keep them safe.”
