Our headwaters rivers here in Grand County are directly linked to the health of our environment, our ranches and our recreational economy. It’s very important that we, as a community, learn to understand what makes our rivers healthy, what threatens our rivers and what we can do to protect them.
The Headwaters River Journey is a museum designed to tell that story and entertain all ages through hands-on interactive exhibits. This museum takes up the entire first floor of the Headwaters Center in Winter Park. A journey through this museum will help you to better understand how each of us can play a role in protecting and restoring this precious resource.
On September 22nd the Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited is presenting a country folk concert at the Headwaters Center, on their outdoor stage. Admission to the concert includes a ticket to the river museum.
The concert will open with Caitlyn Taussig, a singer songwriter who grew up on the headwaters of the Colorado River in Kremmling. The Taussigs have been ranching in Grand County for generations and Caitlyn is continuing that tradition along with writing her own music and performing around the West.
Caitlyn will be followed by the Rifters, a group from New Mexico. The Rifters write and perform a southwest style country folk music that keeps an audience captivated. This is live music that would be a mistake to miss.
Tickets to see this level of talent live are only $20 for adults and $10 for children. This is a remarkable price because it includes admission to the Headwaters River Journey river museum which is normally $15. The River Journey tickets, included with the concert tickets, can be used anytime, so there will be no need to miss any of the music.
The doors will open at 12:00 pm on the 22nd and Caitlyn will start the show at 1:00 pm. The Rifters will play from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. There will be a cash bar with snacks at the event. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors at the same location.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at Winter Park Optical in Fraser or online at www.coheadwaters.org. They will also be available at the gate if the concert is not sold out by then.
There are several ways that everyone can help our headwaters rivers. One way is to support the work that the Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited does by coming to this fundraising concert. Another is to spend time in the Headwaters River Journey getting educated on river issues and solutions. Both can be done on September 22nd.
