A crowd of artists and art lovers braved wintery conditions last Friday night to attend First Tracks Friday, hosted at the Uptripping Gallery and WP Framewerx in downtown Winter Park. Over 40 pieces of upcycled art were on display, varying from a ski chandelier to mixed media pieces and ski/board art.

The creativity was truly “out of this world” as was evidenced by heated silent auction bidding on the pieces displayed. Silent auction bids paid 50% to the artist, and, 50% went to the non-profit of the artist’s choice. In total, the auction raised over $1,800 for 15 local charities.

First Tracks Friday was the first of a series of First Friday events sponsored by Jill Sutcliffe of The Viking Lodge, Shannon Henn of Uptripping and Suzie Cruse of WP Framewerx. The next event is set for Friday, May 4th, and the theme is “The Hat off my head”, where all are encouraged to “steal the hat off your neighbors head”. Attendees create their own Kentucky Derby hats out of whatever materials they choose and wear them to the event. Those willing to part with their hat will be assigned a number and the hat will go up for bid, benefitting the 501(c)3 organization of the creator’s choice.

If you’re around on May 4th, this is another event not to miss in what is shaping up to be a very creative series of First Friday events. You can find out more at uptripping.com/firstfriday
