PEO sisterhood of Grand County recently donated funds to purchase the new national aviation history book, America’s Amazing Airports, written by award-winning local writer-photographer, Penny Rafferty Hamilton, Ph.D. This new book will be donated to the Grand County Library District for readers of all ages to check-out. Because the staff of the Granby Library were so important in their support of this ground-breaking history book, their hard work is acknowledged in America’s Amazing Airports. PEO stands for Philanthropic Educational Organization which celebrates and encourages women. Grand County has PEO Chapter IX of Winter Park-area and Chapter IE from Grand Lake.

America’s Amazing Airports book should be available soon for circulation soon in celebration of November National Aviation History Month. The history book is timeless.  In addition to unique aviation history, the book reveals STEM careers in aviation and resources to learn more. Grand County Historical Association Emily Warner Field Aviation Museum at the Granby/Grand County Airport is featured in the chapter of Airports Honor Notable Leaders.”  General Aviation pilot Hamilton, a Laureate of both the Colorado Women’s and Colorado Aviation Halls of Fame, included historic women in aviation Harriet Quimby, Bessie Coleman, Blanche Noyes, Louise Thaden, and Emily Warner.
