Each year, Grand Lake welcomes and entertains hundreds of enthusiastic revelers at its Winter Carnival.  The Winter of 2019 promises to be no exception!

Under the Big Top” will be the theme for the 2019 Carnival.  A weekend full of family fun and creative opportunities is planned for February 7th through the 9th.

Specifically, several new artistic features will add to the magic of the weekend!

In concert with Grand Lake’s new Creative District designation, this year’s carnival will also feature a Chautauqua -style event for those with artistic and creative inclinations!  This new event, dubbed Creatives Under the Big Top, will begin on Thursday night, February 7th with a Welcome Reception at the Grand Lake Center, 301 Marina Drive.

Friday, February 8th will offer all kinds of collaborative workshops in areas such as Creative Writing, Photography, Painting, Culinary Arts, Kiln-Formed Glass, Kids Woodworking and Songwriting. Friday evening will also feature a musical concert titled “Songwriters in the Round” presented by the instructors of the songwriting workshop.  All creative workshops are offered for a small fee, via a “buffet” or “a la carte” format throughout the day, so that one can choose to attend more than one, if desired. To register for any of these workshops, go to www.grandlakecreativedistrict.org/bigtop

Some of the exciting events to look forward to on Saturday, February 9th are ice-carving contests, bed-sled races, human bowling, teapot curling, an ice addiction ice fishing tournament, a costume ball and fireworks over the lake that night.

This will be an action-packed weekend in Grand Lake! Plan to enjoy all that this mountain town has to offer and experience, first-hand, our iconic “Soul of the Rockies” hospitality!
