For months now, the community has witnessed the transformation of the old Sunset Flooring building into the new Granby Garage Roadhouse. Located at 491 E Agate Avenue, Granby’s newest restaurant and bar is just a few weeks away from opening.

Restaurateurs Jonathan and Nely Gurrola are the owners of the popular Azteca Family Mexican Restaurants in Fraser and Granby. When building owner, Mark Shaffer, approached the two, they seized the opportunity to create another dining option for locals and visitors. “With all the development going on in Granby, it was the right time to do this”, said Jonathan. “We wanted to offer more choices for the locals, a place for them to come and have fun and get home safely.” He added, “we didn’t want to compete with any of the other restaurants in town, including ourselves, we wanted to offer something different”.

And different it is! On the menu, you will find a variety of appetizers, 5 signature burgers, 3 different cuts of steak, Ensenada-style fish and shrimp tacos, Porkbelly al pastor and salads. “We wanted to offer some different things, make it affordable and also quick, especially for lunch diners”, said Jonathan. They plan to offer locally sourced food and beverage options, including Colorado microbrews, meats and vegetables, whenever possible.

The Granby Garage Roadhouse has a large indoor dining room and bar which will be open year-round. The restaurant offers a sports bar-themed setting with 9 television sets to carry all the games. The bar and tables are constructed of beetle-kill wood purchased from Hester’s Log & Lumber in Kremmling, well-suited to the overall design.

In summer, outdoor seating will be the place to be on the 22’ x 40’ deck. “The largest deck in Granby”, said Jonathan. Once the deck is completed in the next week or so, they will move on to constructing a stage adjacent to the patio seating. They plan to host live music on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. “We want to provide a place for locals and visitors to hang out and just have fun here in town”.

At the sidewalk border of the property, a series of planters will complete the restaurant’s landscape design, since their liquor license allows consumption to the sidewalk. “There will be no parking onsite, which allows for more outdoor seating and gathering beyond the deck”, said Jonathan.

Construction began in fall 2018, and they had hoped to open during the winter season, but various issues arose that prevented an earlier opening. The final delay is due to the building being equipped with three-phase power when they need single-phase. They have ordered the unit and once it is installed, a soft opening will take place soon thereafter.

The Granby Garage Roadhouse is still looking for a few more talented employees to round out their staff. Interested applicants are encouraged to drop off an application soon, to be part of the opening team.

Initially, the restaurant will be open 6 days a week (closed Tuesdays), opening at noon to offer a late lunch and dining into the later hours of the evening, staying open until 10:30-11 pm on weekends. “We will listen to our customers and make changes as necessary”, said Jonathan.

The Granby Garage Roadhouse is an exciting new addition to the growing town of Granby. While an opening date is not yet confirmed, Jonathan suggested, “keep your eyes on the signs out front”. When the sign is illuminated, stop in and make your way through the menu to find your favorite, and, bring your friends!
