Wildfire Closes Radium Campground & Boat Launch
A number of wildfires are burning across the west, including several too close to home. The Grand County Office of Emergency Management lists 5 major wildfires in the state of Colorado, of which FOUR are located within the Northwest Region, which includes Grand County. The Mill Creek Fire has burned 270 acres north of Hayden in Routt County, and, the Gutzler Fire, located on federal land southwest of the Grand County line has grown to over 300 acres due to the increasingly dry conditions. The Radium campgrounds and boat launch area have been closed to the public for use as a staging area to fight the fire. Should the fire move into Grand County, local agencies may be asked to respond. Updates are available on the Grand County Office of Emergency Management website.

Everyone is reminded to PLEASE keep your fire pits under control and manageable, decreasing the chance of a rogue spark. Regional resources are currently spread very thin due to these wildfires and being proactive can go a long way!

As a result of the wildfire-caused smoke, Colorado and Grand County Health Departments have issued a Smoke Alert urging at risk population to take precautions and avoid prolonged exposure. For more information, contact Grand County Public Health at (970) 725-3288.
