Flu Reaching Epidemic Proportions

Flu has hit Grand County, Colorado and the Nation.  The majority of the flu circulating today is a Type A flu (H3N2), it is infecting those over 65 at a higher rate in Colorado and Nationally.  According to the Colorado Department of Public Health the vaccine for this 2017-18 season is working in the 50 percent range.  You can still get a flu shot to protect you and those around you.   The flu has ramped up early this year and is rapidly spreading across the country, with widespread flu activity in 46 states, according to the latest data...

Ski Train Back on Track

The second season of the new “Amtrak Winter Park Express” ski train hit the tracks last week with a special kickoff party at Denver Union Station on Thursday, evening January 4th ahead of the first scheduled trip of the new season.   The Union Station celebration, featured live music, special train tours, discounted Winter Park lift tickets, specialty drinks at Terminal Bar and rail cars wrapped in Lyft’s hot pink design. Eagle Wind Sound Studio Contest Results Eagle Wind Sound Studio’s initial Facebook Studio giveaway came to a close in late December 2017. In total, they received 54 entries from a four state region, with an entry from Germany rounding out the submissions as the social media-based contest managed to find its way around the world. A panel of nine judges participated in the selection process to determine the winners and runners up in the categories of Best Artist and Best Band. Where is All the Snow?

Colorado snowpack is reported at the lowest in more than 30 years in some areas of the state. Fire Sprinkler System saves Multiple Businesses from Destruction

On January 4, 2018 at 12:14, East Grand Fire responded to a fire sprinkler water flow alarm at 78737 US 40, commonly known as Park Plaza, with Engine 481 and Ladder Tower 491.  Light smoke was coming from the lower level of the structure near the Idlewild Spirits Distillery and Restaurant. Mutual Aid from Grand Fire for an Engine was requested.  Fraser/Winter Park PD was asked to evacuate the upper level of the building which includes restaurants and shops. The Grand County Concert Series (GCCS) begins its 15th season with the Poulenc Trio, the most active touring piano-wind chamber music ensemble in the world joined by violinist Anton Lande. Since its founding in 2003, the trio has performed in 45 U.S. states and at music festivals around the world, including the Ravello Festival in Italy, the San Miguel de Allende Festival in Mexico, and the White Nights Festival in Russia.
