National Parks Under Threat

The National Park System Advisory Board was established 83 years ago by the US Government under the Historic Sites, Buildings and Antiquities Act to help guide our National Parks. The Board’s charter calls for two meetings per year, but, despite repeated calls from the Board, Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke, has not allowed them to meet since he took office. Their last meeting was November 17-18, 2016. Ballot Measure 1A: Ready to Roll-out the First Grant Cycle

You might recall that, on November 8, 2016, the voters of Grand County approved Ballot Measure 1A allowing Grand County sales tax to be increased .3% for a period of ten years and beginning on January 1, 2017. Per the fund’s December 2017 Financial Report, and also reflecting an approximate two month revenue lag, $1,054,000 had been collected and deposited into the fun thus far. Grand County Board of County Commissioners

Two highly-anticipated public hearings to be held by the Grand County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) recently took different directions, leaving the Board to focus on ongoing County business for the last few regular meetings. A public hearing was rescheduled for the Special Use Permit application, submitted by Denis Moynihan of Fraser Valley Radio, for a permanent 90-foot, 2,500 radio tower to be erected on a privately-owned tract of land in the Batson Tracts subdivision, located north of Tabernash and the Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort. Update from Grand County Sheriff’s Office: “Grand County Law Enforcement Respond to Potential Armed Person Near Highway 40” January 24, 2018 At 16:11 this afternoon, a concerned citizen notified Grand County Sheriff Dispatch of a suspicious person parked in a vehicle near the intersection of County Roads 85/87 west of Tabernash, with guns on the top of his car.  The concerned citizen also indicated that the suspect was not a known resident of the area, and was driving through the neighborhood suspiciously while hiding his face when seen earlier in the day. Winter Park Town Manager on Administrative Leave after Domestic Dispute Winter Park Town Manager Drew Nelson was arrested following a reported domestic disturbance on Monday night at his Winter Park residence, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.  He faces charges of felony menacing, domestic violence, prohibited use of weapons and reckless endangerment. At a court appearance on Tuesday afternoon, Nelson was released on a $500 cash bond. He will return to court on February 5.
